Artist Statement
A depiction of the self-deconstruction of identity. A person’s face is their major identifying aspect. Here it is literally being torn apart from the inside and only the lower half remains in hand. My work in sculpture focuses on representations of concepts and qualities of humanness. Working primarily in metal renders weight and material presence that I find particularly engaging. Seeing my works, I wish viewers to find resonance and relevance of “being human” as I express in physical form facets, abstractions and iterations centering around the mind- body connection and human experience.
