Artist Statement
A nature inspired hand-built stoneware sculptural form, glazed and fired in an electric kiln. This sculpture is a playful visual interpretation of a cloud vessel; a mind-bender about the container, what it holds, and the source. The title I chose for this artwork is a reminder that it is a ceramics vessel, not a cloud which might be the first thing that comes to one’s mind. Volume and silhouette are important elements of the sculptural form.
While the concept of my artworks is deliberately planned, each form takes a life of its own as it evolves through the slow hand building process. I am often inclined to use clay and glazes to evoke various materials, sensations of a range of temperature and hardness, as well as experimenting with scale, profile and volume.
