Artist Statement
A nature inspired hand-built stoneware sculptural form, partially glazed and fired in an electric kiln. This vessel is a playful interpretation of complex, fascinating forms found in nature and trees. The volume and silhouette formed by the trunk and knotty elements, result in an abstract sculpture. The spout is a reference to the jug, a simple ceramics form that can hold liquid, transformed into a nature inspired conceptual form, the blue glaze refers to water needed to nourish trees and nature.
While the concept of my artworks is deliberately planned, each form takes a life of its own as it evolves through the slow hand building process. I am often inclined to use clay and glazes to evoke various materials, sensations of a range of temperature and hardness, as well as experimenting with scale, profile and volume.
